To maximize compatibility, a TRRS to TRS converter is included, which allows this mic to be used with the headphone/microphone splitter.

The supplied Lightning audio splitter will convert your Apple Lightning connector (used on Apple phones prior to the iPhone 15) into two separate TRS connectors, one for the microphone and one for the headphones.  The headphone connector allows you to monitor your audio as you record.  This will significantly increase the potential for capturing great audio on your first try.  (You cannot monitor audio when using most bird ID apps.)
