Which Accessories Do I Need for Sound Shark
Case/Bag for Sound Shark
A carrying bag will provide protection for your unit during storage or during transportation in extremely controlled conditions, such as a personal vehicle. A case provides greater protection for your Sound Shark during storage or shipment.
Two sizes of hard cases are also available. The "Compact Case" has compartments for all Sound Shark components and your microphone, but no compartments for accessories. The "Flight Case" has compartments for all Sound Shark components and microphone, as well as an amp, and collapsible headphones.
Microphone for Sound Shark
Any omnidirectional microphone may be used with your Sound Shark, but we offer the following microphones pre-installed as a convenience for our customers.
Microphone Madness 3.5mm TRS Lapel Mic - The MM-ML has a 3.5mm TRS connector commonly used by digital recorders and digital cameras. It requires plug-in power.
Shure MVL 3.5mm TRS Lapel Mic - The Shure MVL has a 3.5mm TRRS connector commonly used by smartphones. It does not require any external power.
Klover Equalized XLR Lapel Mic - The Klover Equalized mic has been created specifically to provide a more natural sound when used with our 9-inch and 16-inch parabolic microphones. It is based on the Countryman B3 so it is very weather resistant. It comes with an XLR connector and requires phantom power.

Sennheiser MKE2-P XLR Lapel Mic - The Sennheiser MKE2 is popular with broadcast audio engineers. It comes with an XLR connector and requires phantom power.
Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Wireless Lavaliere Microphone - The EW 112 is the only wireless microphone we offer. It comes with two output cables, one with a 3.5mm TRS connector and one with an XLR connector. It does not require any external power.
Amplifier for Sound Shark
If not connected directly to a camera, some type of audio recorder or amplifier is required to capture audio.
The BeachTek DXA Micro Pro is the lowest cost but has an unbalanced output so the output can only be shared with devices that are within approximately 10 feet of the amplifier.
The Zoom F1 recorder is ideal when the audio is to be monitored and/or recorded but not output to another device. It comes complete with a lapel microphone.
The Zoom H4 recorder can be used to monitor and/or record audio as well as supply that audio to a PC via USB.
The Rolls MP-13 amplifier is ideal for connecting your microphone to a PC, or connecting a 3.5mm mic to a device a long distance away.
Headset for Sound Shark
You typically use your ears more than their eyes to aim the Sound Shark. A good headset provides the clear audio required for optimum performance.Wind Cover for Sound Shark
While the collector dish of the Sound Shark provides protection from the wind, the optional wind cover minimizes wind noise when recording in high wind conditions while remaining acoustically transparent.Handle for Sound Shark
A handle makes it easy to hand hold the Sound Shark. It includes a 1/4-20 tapped hole in the bottom so it can be mounted to a tripod.Mounts for Sound Shark
These accessories provide additional flexibility in mounting your Sound Shark.
The Mini Ball Head is ideal when mounting the Sound Shark on a camera.
The Light Stand Mount is obviously used with a light stand or stationary bracket.
(A pistol grip handle is also available.)
Adapters for Sound Shark
These adapters allow a standard TRS microphone to be used with a smart phone. Please refer to the "Microphone" options above and the tips there.Spare Parts for Sound Shark
Be prepared for that unexpected mishap by having a spare parts kit in your bag. The kit included all parts likely to be lost or damaged.
Description
The Sound Shark can be used with any omni-directional lapel (lavaliere) microphone that works with your camera or recorder. The Accessory version of the Sound Shark comes with Accessory Mounting Bracket already installed. This mounting bracket allows flash shoe accessories, such as compact LED lights, to be mounted to the base of the Sound Shark.
Cylindrical microphones are preferred as they are slightly more secure in our mounting clip. We highly recommend adding the Sound Shark Wind Cover (below) to your order if you will be working outdoors. If you are recording with a DSLR, we recommend using a preamplifier with your camera, to get the highest quality of audio. (You may want to refer to our series of blog posts on using external amplifiers to learn more about this topic.)
